When We Started
"There is nothing new under the sun." by Shakespeare
This is true of Spiritualism's history. Records show as far back as 3260 BC, the Egyptians knew of spirit, and life in the world of spirit, as did the Greeks, Hebrews and other nations of that time. Over the centuries, many people were sensitive to spirit communication, those known as shamans, witch doctors and medicine men communicated with the spirit world. Many
notable names in history were associated with Spiritualism, such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Emmanuel Swedenborg, Abraham Lincoln, just to name a few.
Modern Spiritualism was founded in upstate New York
on March 31, 1848. The search began when the Fox Sisters established communication with an
identifiable spirit entity, proving communication with another realm was possible. They endured many difficult "investigations" in an effort to prove communication with spirit was possible. During that era, Spiritualism
became very popular, for example, there were twenty-six Spiritualist churches in Massachusetts in 1853. Spiritualism has had many trials and tribulations over the years, brought about by the disbelief of other religions and unenlightened people, but we continue to grow in love.
Basic Beliefs
As Spiritualists, we believe that life continues after the change called death. We prove the continuity of life by communicating with those on the spirit side of life. We believe in personal responsibility, that your life is a reflection of how you comply with the Physical, Mental and Spiritual Laws of Nature, Universal Laws which are, immutable and unchangeable, that
apply equally to everyone, everywhere all of the time. We believe that
"all roads that lead to God are good";
the God of your understanding, be it a belief in the teachings of Jesus, Buddha, Confucius or Muhammad.
Spiritualists respect each individuals right to pursue their spiritual development.
